Cheerleading provides a full-body workout that builds strength, flexibility, coordination, and cardiovascular endurance. Kids develop core stability, balance, and body awareness through jumps, tumbling, and stunts. Unlike single-focus sports, cheer combines elements of gymnastics, dance, and athletics, making it incredibly well-rounded for growing bodies.

Calling all future cheerleaders ages 5-12, Intro Cheer is your perfect starting point! This energetic class blends tumbling, gymnastics, and cheerleading basics with an expert cheer coach who makes learning fun and builds essential skills.
Tumbling Programs starts at 5 years of age and go up to 12.
Absolutely—Intro Cheer welcomes complete beginners! This class is designed as an introduction to cheerleading, so no prior experience is needed. Our coach will start with the basics and help every child build skills progressively in a positive, encouraging atmosphere where it's okay to be new.
Yes! Safety is our top priority. Our Intro Cheer class focuses on age-appropriate skills taught by a trained cheerleading coach who emphasizes proper technique and progression. We use professional mats and equipment, and kids learn foundational skills at ground level before advancing. We maintain appropriate class sizes to ensure every child receives proper supervision and instruction.
Our Cheer classes at GymKidz are 1 hour long. This gives us the perfect amount of time to provide a comprehensive class that includes a proper warm-up, skill instruction and practice, conditioning exercises to build strength and flexibility, and a fun cool-down activity.
The hour-long format allows our coaches to work with each child individually while maintaining an engaging pace that keeps kids focused and excited throughout the entire class. It's long enough to make real progress on skills while being the ideal length to hold children's attention and energy levels.
For cheer classes at GymKidz, students should wear comfortable, stretchy athletic clothing that allows for full range of movement. Here's what we recommend:
Clothing:
- Form-fitting shorts, leggings, or athletic pants (avoid loose or baggy clothing that can get caught or interfere with movements)
- A fitted t-shirt, tank top, or athletic top
- Avoid clothing with zippers, buttons, or decorative elements that could be uncomfortable during rolls and floor work
Footwear:
- Bare feet are preferred for the best grip and connection to the mats
Hair and Accessories:
- Long hair should be securely tied back in a ponytail or bun.
- Remove all jewelry including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and watches for safety
- Hair clips or headbands should be avoided as they can be uncomfortable during floor skills
What to Bring:
- A water bottle to stay hydrated
- A positive attitude and readiness to learn!
The most important thing is that your child can move freely and safely. When in doubt, think about what they'd wear for other active sports or physical activities!
